Pit Bull rescue Arkansas

Where Angels Run

Pit Bull rescue Arkansas

OUR MISSION:

To reduce the useless killing of physically and temperamentally sound companion animals due to the lack of responsible homes and to improve the quality of life for owned dogs in the South.

We will accomplish our mission by-

- providing low cost sterilizations to ALL pets regardless of their owner's ability to pay

- rescuing and rehoming the overlooked majority-black dogs, large dogs and bull breed dogs

- educating the public about basic animal care requirements and the benefits of spaying and neutering

- assisting animal rescue groups in partnering with local veterinarians to develop low cost spay/neuter programs in in their communities

- developing outreach programs that distribute pet supplies to low income families in order to improve the quality of life for their pets

Where Angels Run was formed in 1997 to rescue dogs that other rescue organizations labeled as "unadoptable." These labeled dogs included dogs that were predominately black in color, over 40 lbs, and/or a breed that was deemed "dangerous" such as pit bulls. We soon realized that it was nearly impossible to help all of these dogs because of the enormous overpopulation. We then changed our focus to reaching out into the public to educate and offer low cost spay/neuter in order to make a considerable change for the future of these dogs. We all pay part of our hard earned money to have our local municipalities euthanize healthy and friendly but, unwanted pets. The sole reason we must pay our government to control the over population of pets is because pet owners choose not to have their pets sterilized thus leading to unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.

The figures-

~For every human born, 15 puppies and 45 kittens are born.

~One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years. ~One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in 6 six years.

~An estimated 6 to 8 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. Millions more are abandoned, only to suffer on the streets from illness or injury before dying. ~In a study of relinquishment of dogs and cats in 12 U.S. animal shelters, 30% of the surrendered dogs were purebreds.

~The same study indicated that 55% of the surrendered dogs and 47% of the surrendered cats were unaltered. ~It costs taxpayers an estimated $2 billion a each year to round up, house, euthanize and dispose of homeless animals.

~Approximately 90% of dogs and puppies entering shelters are killed, based on reports from 1,038 animal control facilities across America.

"I am begging you, please have your pet sterilized. Please, do whatever you have to do to convince your friend, family member or co worker to sterilize their pet. If you don't feel compelled by this message then visit your local animal control and ask how many pets they euthanize a week. Ask why they must euthanize the wonderful animals that are in front of you, begging for your attention and affection. Together, we can end the futile practice of euthanasia of healthy and friendly dogs and cats." Desiree Bender Founder/President Where Angels Run
